Electronic Waste

Many electronic items, including computers and computer peripherals like mice or monitors contain toxic materials such as lead, cadmium and mercury.

Reusing and recycling electronics keep the toxic materials out of our landfills and incinerators.  We may be able to recover valuable resources from the recycled materials.  This ultimately protects human health and the environment.  Broken or obsolete items can not be thrown into the trash or the toxic materials can leak out and contaminate the surrounding area, eventually making their way into our air, food, or water.

Please refer to the Waste Disposal Matrix for the proper channels in disposing of University-related and personal electronic waste.
